C-BREEZY

Chris was spotted at the debut of remade Wrigley’s Gum jingles at the Nokia Theatre Tuesday night in NYC, rocking a couple of items from Pharrell’s clothing line ICE CREAM. I am really feeling the choice of bright colors on this trip. For a young man, his style is never too over the top. Just a nice classic Urban Trendsetter Swag.

Going Long…..

So soon? Just when I was having fun cutting inches off my entire collection of skirts! When you’re a fashion slave, you rarely have any choice in the matter. You bend over backwards to attain each and every look throughout the season, and then pay for it months later. Unfortunately, the long skirts this season are not my favorite. Every time I attempt this look, I end up with 2 decades added to my lifespan. It is impossible to give this trend a youthful and vibrant look. Most shades are dark, providing no room for spice. I would really like to give this one a chance but for now, I am almost positive I will be sitting this one out this season.

OVER THE WEEKEND

PURE GALACTIC

Sunday, I attended a Fashion Show at the Granby Theatre, Downtown Norfolk, VA. Beautiful gold and silver graced the stage as well as floral, vintage costumes, and lace! The creators go by the name of “Q&COMPANY”. A group of talented individuals dedicated to fashion excellence! By teaming up with clothing company “ECHOES OF TIME”, they managed to knock our socks off with space age ensembles and edgy vintage clothing.

WATER COLORS

Being a fashionista, I am always looking for new ways to spice up my wardrobe. I cut off sleeves, spray paint my jeans, rip up my blouse, minimize my skirts, etc. With department stores taking over the Fashion World, it is impossible to stand out from the crowd. Today I am featuring a video from ELLE Magazine that will enable you to have maximum style in just 60 seconds. Don’t believe me? Check it out for yourself!

OMBRE

n. A French term meaning "shaded." Usually a multicolored stripe, with colors graduating from light to dark. The color effect is woven into the fabric. Generally produced by arranging different tones in the warp.

During the early summer, this trend of blending was all over the fashion globe. From handbags to heels. With three or more colors to choose from, it was a nice feeling to finally be able to get the maximum amount of usage from one article of clothing. If you did not own orange heels, rock the red or yellow ones….and so on. This trend will still be around for fall. If you are afraid to go bright during the winter season check out the new gray “BURGUNDY” for an alternate shade.

PLAID PERFECTION

I have never purchased an article of clothing that was plaid. I never attended private school as a child, so this trend is totally new to me. I’m digging this look a lot. Plaid is not extremely pleasing to the eyes. You will have to step outside of the box on this one and just do it! Borrow the idea from Rhianna, by pairing a plaid skirt with a tank top. Don’t forget to hike it up a bit to give the “I bought this as a full dress” illusion. This is great look for plaid tennis skirts as well. The colors are bright (along with everything else) this season. Stick to shades that compliment you for an effortless look!

WONDERLAND

Every once in a while I will drift off into Wonderland. A place where all my Fashion dreams come true. Today I am in Paris hanging out with Manolo Blahnik. I was flown in to take a peek at his Fall Ready-To-Wear line. Of course me and Blahnik go way back so my opinion counts. Since I love you guys, I have sent over a couple of pics via my camera phone for your viewing pleasure.

OVER THE WEEKEND...

Russell Simmons held his 9Th Annual Art For Life Benefit Gala in the Hamptons this weekend. I'm thinking the theme color was purple. I wasn't overwhelmed with most of the wardrobe choices, but I managed to find a few that were OK enough to post.

HOSIERY FOR DUMMIES

Just when you thought it was OK to rock bare legs this fall (WRONG!). Designers Moschino and D&G are blowing us away with bold and outrageous hosiery this season. I am a big fan of printed tights. It is such a creative way to dress up that old party dress you bought over 5 yrs ago. There are no rules to this particular look. The bolder the beautiful! We want wild and crazy prints, bright shades, full length and knee highs. Try wearing them underneath a pair of skinny jeans to give your heels a quick boost. There are a million colors this fall. Try and keep your colors in the same family if possible. If you’re wearing a blue dress, grab a pair of tights similar to that shade. You don’t want to look like a walking crayon box. Of course black is more versatile, so you’re free to do whatever you wish. Choosing the print will be entirely up to you. I chose to stay away from boring fishnets this season. There are so many bold prints this fall, why go with something that has already been done before? If you decide to rock the fishnets… check out Baby Phat, Rodarte, and D Squared for fresh ideas. This look is fun and unrestricted, so be fashionably free for once!

THE NEW GRAY

Last fall it was purple, this season it’s Burgundy! Yes, burgundy is the new and improved gray! It doesn’t mean run to the nearest Salvation Army and donate all your gray to charity, but you may want to push it to the back of your closet for now. Burgundy has been dead for a couple of years. I am happy designers have decided to resurrect it for fall/winter. Burgundy screams class and sophistication, so please treat it as such. Whether you’re attending a dinner party or happy hour, keep this look nice and simple. This shade is bold enough to stand on it’s on.

APRIL SHOWERS, NOVEMBER FLOWERS

Along with velvet and plaids this fall, we have bouquets of lilies, tulips, and purple lisianthuses. Designer Michael Kors proudly took the lead during the fall 2008 Ready-to-Wear Runway show. His fashionable garden included bright purples and luminous shades of green. I will definitely participate in this one. Just the thought of rocking bright floral in the midst of a snow storm excites me! I can’t wait! I have added the video (courtesy of ELLE MAG) for your viewing pleasure. Check it out and let me know if you will be on this particular train this season.

Ben and Toni

If you wanted the exact number of handbags I own, you would have to give me at least a 96 hour notice. Handbags are my kryptonite! I can’t walk into a department store without venturing over to the handbag section. Once I’m there, I immediately start drooling and involuntarily reaching into my wallet for a credit card with the highest available balance. A short prayer usually follows in hopes of NOT finding a gorgeous heel to pair it with. To avoid the bag/shoe temptation, and when I am looking for something extremely different and not mass produced, I visit Ben and Toni in Brooklyn NY at Hayden –Harnett. Toni has been designing bags since 1999, and Ben sort of just hangs out. Hey, whatever works!

IS THAT VELVET??

Velvet is BACK!!! I am not quite sure why, but every high fashion designer seems to be on this bus. It will definitely keep you warm this winter, but this look is tricky. If you are going to go there, go all the way! Don’t rock the pants without the jacket! This look will need participation from both pieces. Skinny ties are super hot right now. If you don’t have one….go get one!! If your looking for a new look, try tailoring at least one suit from your closet. Retro is back and so are slimmer silhouettes for men. I really love this new “slim” trend for guys. I can’t tell if they stepped out of their condo or off of the runway! Keep the colors basic and dark if possible. I’m not sure how people will respond if you stepped out in a red velvet suit, so don’t do it! Good Luck!

LIKE A BOY

If you’re looking for a fresh new look this winter…..good news! I have been reviewing the Fall 2008 trends, and for once I will have to go out and actually purchase something. Designers like Calvin Klein, have decided to go with a more masculine silhouette for fall. I have never attempted to buy a tie or rock a pant suit that was not fitted. I am curious to see how my body will display this sort of look. Pairing your suit with a collared shirt and tie will seem like over kill. You would not wear it to the office, so you will have to make it “street worthy”. I would pair it with a nice colorful rock tee and maybe a basic tie to give it a boyish look. Grab a pair of solid colored heels, and you have your “boy meets girl”. Keep the handbag to a minimum, by choosing a small wristlet or wallet if you’re brave!

HOUSE OF DISASTER

I have wanted to discuss this line since it dropped in 2006. I remember being so excited for her! I love Beyonce and I think she is a great artist/entertainer. When I finally saw the collection, I was disappointed. It was Baby Phat!!!! There was no cat but I’m sure they cut and paste the photos and did a little photo editing to get rid of it. The designs are so similar it’s crazy! Which brings me to the next question, why would I pay $200 for Dereon when I can purchase the same jeans from Kimora for $59? I was so sad because I expected to be blown away! Being the fashion victim that I am, you can take me to the worst department store known to man (Sears) and I promise you I will find at least ONE item I can work with. In this case, it was humanly impossible.

FASHION FRIENDLY

Rhianna, Usher, Mary J, and Jay Z performed at the 3rd Thisday “Africa Rising” Festival in Abuja, Nigeria. Rhianna has been one of favorites this year, but I’m not sure about this one. The dress is cute and the gladiators are fly. I’m not really feeling both pieces together.

Dwayne Wade and Alonzo Mourning were spotted in Miami over the weekend at their Zo’s Summer Groove Beach Ball event. Alonzo, I’m speechless!

SPARKS

I was doing a little channel surfing today when I ran across Jordin's video( One step at a time) on MTV. I think I may be a little late on this one, I don't watch videos as much as I use to. Anyway, I posted the video because I thought her outfit and her little green heels were super cute!!!

MEN AND TYING THE KNOT!

As a teen, I once asked my Dad to teach me how to tie a neck tie. Not that I really needed to know. I just figured one day I will be married, and my husband may or may not know how to do it. Of course this skill would have been used for “ego boosting” purposes only. As an adult, I slowly came to realize that most young men couldn’t tie a neck tie if their lives depended on it. So……….being the wonderful and thoughtful person that I am, I decided to feature a step by step video. Just in time for church on Sunday! ENJOY!
